NOTE TO SELF: Add "The Song of Bernadette" to my reading list. And, I'm having so much fun trying to figure out the names of each of your characters in real life. It's much more fun guessing than knowing.
I never heard of the BITE model. But that hit the nail on the head. I remember a friend of mine getting married on a Sunday morning and being told I should have gotten advice about missing church that morning to go to the wedding bc I was supposed to seek the kingdom first. In the end - I had to take a weirdo date with me that my friends didn’t know so I could be sure to not accidentally fall away during the nuptials I guess.
Oh, I’ll have some stories about the evils of missing Sunday church. And you obviously couldn’t be trusted not to fall away when you saw two non-Christians kissing, you saucy wench.
Hiding CS Lewis books - oh my. I once got in trouble for reading “The Princess and the Goblin” written by George MacDonald (one of CS Lewis’ inspirations) to a minister’s daughter who I served as unpaid nanny. George Macdonald was also a Christian minister.
The biggest one was me trying to read Anne Rice. Her stories would pull me in so hard, the cult thoughts would fall to the side. I ended up vowing never to read her works again - they were too good.
Ha! Okay, Anne Rice is one (marvelous) thing, but how crazy was it that we couldn’t even read any other CHRISTIAN books? (And don’t get me started on the amount of unpaid labor we did because they were busy saving the world.) 🙄
At one point I worked at the headquarters for our cult cleaning office buildings and dormitory common areas. I kept finding (very devilish) fantasy novels in one of the lesser used women’s restrooms hidden behind the toilets. I found out later that one of the ministers’ teenage daughters would come down there to read and stash her books where she thought no one would find them.
Luckily it was me who found them and not her father.
My SuperWife! As I write this I'm slowly enjoying the beef stew she simmered to perfection with a nice glass of red. So glad to read about genuinely real people who around the early years, knew how to take a break from the drumbeat to chuckle and laugh. Can't wait for the meet cute! Yknow, when Kate deadpans hearing how Cary is also from Surrey!

Yes, sir, keep guessing 😉

Thats a correct assessment.
This was so fun to read. I learned about sex from Greek mythology and horror books…😆Catholic girls always found a way!
